Why do we run?

Marina Sawdon

I lost my gorgeous Mam 1 year ago to cancer. She passed away peacefully and with dignity at the Butterwick Hospice. I'm sure we all know someone who has lost a loved one to this terrible disease. The Hospice provides such an important service to those with cancer and also to their families, yet unbelievably they rely heavily on charity.

The care they gave my Mam for the short time she was there meant so much to us as a family. She was able to keep her dignity right up to the very end, and even after. My gratitude to the staff there will never cease. Six of us at Durham University, Queen's Campus ran in the 2009 Great North Run and raised over £1600 for the Butterwick.

Fundraising Tips

If you work for a large company why not ask your employer to match fund your sponsorship pound for pound. Doing this lets you raise twice as much money and it’s also a chance for your employer show their support to you. We put this in early as its good to talk to your employer about this early on.

Motivational Tip of the week!

Treat yourself for adhering to your training plan. Perhaps a sports massage, a session with a personal trainer or some new kit will keep you keen!
