I lost my gorgeous Mam 1 year ago to cancer. She passed away peacefully and with dignity at the Butterwick Hospice. I'm sure we all know someone who has lost a loved one to this terrible disease. The Hospice provides such an important service to those with cancer and also to their families, yet unbelievably they rely heavily on charity. The care they gave my Mam for the short time she was there meant so much to us as a family. She was able to keep her dignity right up to the very end, and even after. My gratitude to the staff there will never cease. Six of us at Durham University, Queen's Campus ran in the 2009 Great North Run and raised over £1600 for the Butterwick. Marina Sawdon |
